The Bloomtrigger project is coming to Brazil!
In 2012 Bloomtrigger managed to reach schools in Japan, Nepal and even South Sudan, but for 2013 our sights are set on South America, more specifically Brazil! We are working towards a partnership with a group of indigenous communities in the Brazilian Amazon, with an ambitious conservation strategy investing in management, education and health that will aid them in the fight to protect their forests. As a first step to making Bloomtrigger Brasil a reality, we have decided to launch the project in the first Brazilian primary school, a brazilian pilot project if you like, to get the ball rolling!
We are currently running a crowdfunding project (on Catarse; the best crowdfunding platform in Brazil) to raise the funds we will need to be able to finish translating our website into portuguese and spanish and launch in the first brazilian school. Proving our project successful in Brazil will add even more weight to our credibility and commitment, helping to secure these essential future partnerships we are seeking with forestry communities and investors.
Why Brazil?
Brazil is growing on the world stage, currently with a strong outlook on its economy, it is busy preparing for the World Cup next year in 2014 and the Olympics in 2016. But although there is much to be optimistic about in Brazil, there still exists great inequality between the rich and the poor. An inequality that perpetuates terrible poverty and leads to deforestation in the rush to cash in on the frequent illegal and unsustainable use of the natural resources. Unfortunately there is no quick solution to this complex problem, however if you speak to any brazilian they all agree that investment in education is what Brazil needs above all. It is no secret that education is the only long term solution for Brazil and the rest of the world! So this is where Bloomtrigger begins to play its part. We want to bring our free online environmental education model to primary schools in Brazil. After establishing Bloomtrigger in the first school we aim to spread to more schools across Brazil and South America. While continuing to tackle the 'disconnect' between urban children and the environment in more schools around the world.
